Ladies Golf Attire: Forever Free From the Ugly Plaids!
Once upon a time, women were not allowed to golf at all. Most clubs restricted women, along with other groups of potential golfers. Once women were allowed the right to pursue golf as a hobby, and yes, even as a career, the outfits that they were expected to wear was restrictive, uncomfortable and honestly, God awful ugly. Stiff material, overly long skirts and blouses that went right up to the chin made a woman’s swing short, choppy and of little use to her. Once she broke out of the prison of her horrible clothing, women golfers proved that they could swing just as well and nearly as far as the average man. Read the rest of this entry »
Necessary Golf Equipment and Accessories: How Not to Go Overboard
Once upon a time, golfers played the game with wooden clubs. In fact, steels shafts were not legalized in the United States until 1924. The problem with these wooden shafts was the difficulty of finding that many matching pieces of wood. Huge variations in the wood’s shape or texture could throw a golfer off severely. Those days are gone now, and most people should not have a major issue with finding the right clubs for their body type, frame, height, strength and swing style.
If you are just a casual, or beginning golfer, you can walk into virtually any store at all and grab a bag of golf clubs without any further thought. If you are more serious, however, you will want to take the time to really figure out what the best type of club is for you, and for that determination you might need some professional help. Going to a store that has a golf pro that is trained to help you make the best choices. Do not allow yourself to be talked into the top of the line clubs if you have never played the game before, but do buy the best clubs that you yourself can afford.
If you had been playing with rental clubs and find that you had grown quite comfortable with them, use those as your starting point. Go into the store knowing what the length, shaft style, flex and brand name were of the rentals. If they are not available or you find that new ones are out of your price range, then ask for a comparable brand and style. Make sure that the clubs you finally settle on are the right fit, not only for your budget, but for your game as well. Discuss such concepts as grip and hand action, loft and clubhead size when choosing your clubs. If you do not understand any of these concepts then you definitely need some professional help.
Other equipment that you will need is: a bag to carry all of your clubs, balls, tees, a towel (or better yet, several towels), pencils for marking scores, and a method of identifying your bag amongst the crowd.
Accessories are those great little extras that no one really needs, but are kind of fun to have. These include fancy golf watches that keep your score for you, tripod tees for use in hard ground, and a rubber suction cup that will pull your ball from the hole so that you do not have to bend down. In other words, golfer toys!
